    Project introduction

The main objective of CONNECT-UNITA is the development of a collaborative platform and a methodology for innovation in teaching and learning that not only aims to achieve success in the acquisition of knowledge and competences but also allows breaking down barriers of geographical, linguistic and temporal distance thus fostering inclusion and international cooperation.

    Project Description

    Project description
This video describes the Connect UNITA project, aimed at creating a collaborative methodology for innovation in teaching and learning within the framework of the UNITA European Alliance. This initiative seeks to break down geographical, linguistic, and temporal barriers to enhance inclusion and international cooperation among over 250,000 students and 21,000 staff from 12 universities across seven countries.

In order to better illustrate the addressed challenges and the solutions offered, the video introduces a story board scenario showing how flipped classrooms are utilized, allowing students to access recorded content at their own pace, which contributes to improved engagement. However, challenges arose in tracking student progress and maintaining focus during video sessions. To address these challenges, solutions are developed in order to integrate learning analytics, enabling the monitoring of student interactions with the content. Additionally, provisions for multilingual access, including subtitles, ensure that international students can engage with the materials in their native languages. In summary, our project promotes the development of blended, hybrid and multilingual teaching methods, facilitating physical and digital resource sharing among teachers and learners. Connect UNITA is emphasized as a key initiative for overcoming educational barriers, fostering a more personalized and inclusive learning experience.

Bridging the Gaps: The Travel Machine

    Travel Machine definition

In an era where global collaboration is more crucial than ever, the European University Alliance, UNITA, is at the forefront of fostering international cooperation among universities. However, despite a strong motivation to collaborate, these institutions face several significant challenges. Temporal barriers, such as conflicting time zones, spatial barriers due to physical distances, and linguistic barriers arising from language differences, all pose significant hurdles to seamless collaboration. To transcend these obstacles, the Connect Unita project has been working on an innovative solution known as the Travel Machine.

The travel machine is not about physical travel but rather about overcoming the barriers that limit collaboration. It is designed to facilitate teaching, learning, and collaboration across different modalities and dimensions.

Several use case scenarios have been designed and implemented to illustrate and evaluate CONNECT-UNITA solutions. CONNECT-UNITA will facilitate the integration of future consortium partners, in particular the extra European partners of our GEMINAE network.

    How to Travel ?

We invite you to start exploring the time machine presented below. To do this, you need to select one of the indicated points that represent a combination of a temporal, spatial, or linguistic dimension.

In the temporal dimension, collaboration can occur synchronously in real-time or asynchronously through emails and forums. Often, a hybrid mode is employed, combining both synchronous and asynchronous interactions to maximize flexibility and participation.

Spatially, the travel machine enables collaboration either in a shared physical space or through remote connections using online communication systems. This can also involve a blended experience, where face-to-face interactions are combined with remote participation, ensuring that geographical distances do not hinder the collaborative process. By leveraging technology, participants can engage effectively from anywhere in the world, making it possible to create a truly integrated educational environment.

The linguistic dimension of the travel machine addresses the challenge of language diversity. While English often serves as a common language to facilitate communication, the travel machine also supports multilingual environments. Participants can use simultaneous translation solutions to collaborate in real-time, despite linguistic differences. This capability enhances intercomprehension and allows for richer, more inclusive interactions among diverse groups.
